Walking suggestions for 2013

What have you got planned for this year?

January 2013 -

Looking for some inspiration for this year’s walking? Here are some suggestions for how to get the most out of 2013.

1) Explore a National Park

All of the UK’s National Parks have good public transport networks, so plan a week’s walking (or a long weekend) based around the local stops or stations. Try exploring the lesser-known quarters – have you visited southern Snowdonia yet, or the western summits in the Brecon Beacons?

2) Get to know your local area

How many car-free walks have you done around your own home town? Get a bus timetable and an OS map, and look where the local buses go. You’ll soon find somewhere you haven’t been yet. Or…

3) Walk home

… take the bus or train further away from home and walk back from there. Why not make a weekend of it and stay at a nearby B&B? You may find something amazing on (or at least near) your doorstep.

4) Go car-free in Europe

You can reach many of Europe’s finest walking areas in less than a day on the train – go to www.seat61.com to plan your travel. Our suggestion? Try the Eifel Mountains near Cologne – great walking, great wine and great beer.

5) Add your walks to our website

Whatever you plan and wherever you go, make sure you submit your route to the Car Free Walks website, so others can follow in your footsteps. If you have an itchy pen, why not put together a short blog piece for us?

Happy walking!
