Pick of the tops

Car Free Walks has been running for nearly seven years, and we have had hundreds of walks submitted in that time (thanks, everyone!)

But which routes have had the highest ratings from users over the yeas? The results may surprise you….In fifth place is Cader Idris. No shocks here: this is a Welsh classic, a walk that you might expect to find even higher up the list. Arguably Wales’ most shapely hill, Cader Idris is likely to be in the top five of many walkers’ lists.

Three hills in a day

Tim and Patrik head to Gower in search of the world's ninth-best beach

A hill that fails to top 200m barely counts as a day out; you could probably squeeze it in before breakfast. But stitch three of them together and it looks like more of a challenge. Throw in some sand dunes and one of the world’s top ten beaches and you have the ingredients for a mini classic.

A wild camp in Wales

Sometimes, you don’t need a fixed plan for a good walk

The only things required are a map, a backpack crammed with kit and food (and maybe some wine, if space allows) and a vague sense of which direction to start off in. With those essentials, the world is your oyster. Or the Brecon Beacons are, at least.

Create your walk and win!

Each quarter we enter everyone who submits a car-free walk to our website into a prize draw to win some goodies.
